Louise Raphael is an emeritus professor of mathematics at Howard University.  She has published over fifty articles on approximation theory, ill-posed problems, functional analysis, wavelets and most recently statistical learning theory. Her collaborators include Mark A. Kon of Boston University, Harvey Diamond of West Virginia University and Daniel A. Williams of Howard University.

Her activities include directing undergraduate research projects on classifying gene expression levels for prostate cancer in African American and European American males using the kTSP model; mentoring prospective STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) high school teachers; and running volunteer workshops using her free math guide for parents of kindergarten and first grade children. This math guide for parents is available in English and Spanish.
